The sixth edition of the dream wine by Hans Terzer reveals itself as another masterpiece from the winery, which can boast a hundred years of history. The APPIUS is just as rich and full as the vintage itself. 2015 is considered to be one of the best vintages of the last decade, evidenced by a harvest of perfectly ripened grapes. Made from carefully selected premium-class grapes, APPIUS 2015 has a solid backbone of Chardonnay grape which has been enhanced by a blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon. Complex and full. In the foreground exotic fruits such as pineapple, mango, kiwi and banana are revealed, developing to give hints of white fruit like apple, pear, melon, apricot and peach. Citrus fruits and subtle echoes of smoke and tobacco round things out.
Compact and tasty, with a lively freshness. Balanced and full with balsamic notes, hints of mint and resin. Long and intense finish.

Placed in barriques-tonneaux for fermentation, biological acid reduction (except Sauvignon) and vinification. Assemblage takes place after just under one year, followed by another three years of maturation in steel tanks with fine yeast.

Appius 2015 provides a perfect accompaniment to fish. It is equally at home with Asian cuisine and spicy dishes based around white meat and game.
Since 1977 Hans Terzer has borne responsibility for wine production at St. Michael-Eppan Winery, bringing it to the top of the Italian and international wine world in just a few years. “I’ve had the idea of APPIUS in my head for a long time; I just had to wait for the right moment.”
During his regular inspections of the vineyards, he found many years ago that individual vines had the potential to produce absolute top wines, due to a very low yield. “I wanted to harvest and develop these grapes separately, creating a completely new and sensational wine – a wine that we at St. Michael-Eppan had not created up until now.”
He seems to have succeeded in APPIUS 2010. Sourced from various historical vineyards within the municipality of Eppan, the majority is Chardonnay; Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon comprise the remainder. “APPIUS is basically fermented and aged in small oak barrels. After twelve months of aging in wood, it then matures on the lees for nearly three more years, inside steel tanks.
So precious an interior indubitably needs a refined exterior. The modern, elegant and minimalist design of the bottle is in keeping with the St. Michael-Eppan philosophy. The dark glass bottle makes it clear that the essence is always invisible to the eye and that we should allow the senses to lead us.
Every year, not only the content is reinterpreted but the design of the bottle also changes. The goal is to design a valuable wine collection that will delight wine aficionados around the globe every year. APPIUS is a limited edition: each of the 4,000 bottles is numbered.
